Public presentation of 9 Bairros, Ponta Delgada 2030 Cultural Strategy and Ponta Delgada | Azores candidacy for the European Capital of Culture

On the 2nd of March, at 6pm, the 9 Bairros publication, the Ponta Delgada 2030 Cultural Strategy and the Ponta Delgada | Azores candidacy for the European Capital of Culture will be presented at the Coliseu Micaelense, in Ponta Delgada.

The session will be attended by Pedro Nascimento Cabral, Mayor of Ponta Delgada, Sérgio Rezendes, Councillor for Culture of the Ponta Delgada City Council, Ana Pedrosa, cultural consultant, António Pedro Lopes, artistic director of Ponta Delgada | Azores candidacy for the European Capital of Culture, and by the editorial team of the 9 Bairros project. This presentation session will be held online at a later date, which has not yet been defined.

9 Bairros is a participative digital publication, now in paper form, created under Azores 2027. It contains chronicles, interviews, discovery routes on the 9 islands, profiles and recipes, with the purpose of uniting the Azorean islands and all those who are part of them.

The Cultural Strategy of Ponta Delgada was developed to trace the cultural municipality’s goals until 2030. The project arose at the same time as the preparation of Ponta Delgada – Azores candidacy for the European Capital of Culture, in order to „convene“ Culture as a development and affirmation process of these islands located in the middle of the Northern Atlantic Ocean, while working on the dichotomy between the municipality’s urban and rural dimensions.

Azores 2027, the candidacy project of Ponta Delgada, Azores starts from the city to the municipality of Ponta Delgada, and from the island of São Miguel to the nine islands of the archipelago, to Europe and to the World. It aims to create a laboratory, an academy and a stage, thus transforming our European Capital of Culture into a European Archipelago of Culture.
