Who we are
Ponta Delgada – Azores 2027 is the candidacy of Ponta Delgada for European Capital of Culture, in articulation with other municipalities and islands, and with the support of the Government of the Azores, in an inclusive and collaborative project.
Ponta Delgada – Azores 2027 is a process of cultural transformation that begins in Ponta Delgada city and wants to contribute to the implementation of cultural public policies in the region of Azores, that, in turn, contribute to social and economic development.
More than a candidacy, we want to be a community that gathers for a cause: strengthening Culture, Heritage and Creativity in the Azores, strengthening its connection with other sectors of society, while we show ourselves, with our uniqueness and richness, to all Europe.
We want Ponta Delgada – Azores 2027 to work as a participatory process, involving the entire community, strengthening bonds and creating new relationships between our islands and the world.
Azorean writer Martins Garcia wrote “the world is all islands and islands are endless eves of embarkation". Therefore, we want you to navigate with us on this journey towards 2027, the year in which Ponta Delgada could be the European Capital of Culture. After all, Europe begins here.
