Ponta Delgada announced as one of the four finalists

Ponta Delgada was announced as one of the four Portuguese shortlisted cities for the title of European Capital of Culture 2027 last March, together with Aveiro, Braga and Évora.

The four cities have now the opportunity to continue to work on their candidacy process and to prepare a second bid book based on the panel’s recommendations.

After delivering the final bid book on 21 October this year, a delegation of the panel will pay a one-day visit to the shortlisted cities in November and in December a new meeting with the international panel will be held in Lisbon. Between the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023, the Portuguese city winner of the European Capital of Culture title in 2027 will finally be known.

We are putting our house in order and preparing the foundations to continue the process. Over the next few months we intend to: continue to work on the bid book that led us to the final selection stage; share this document, as well as the European panel’s recommendations about the work we carried out so far; and launch a wide-ranging process of listening, collecting ideas and implementing pilot projects. 2022 will be the year to continue to share imagination and, thus, to plan the future.
